Dr Eric Cheah is a consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. He holds a public appointment at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and an Honorary appointment at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, NSW. He has private admitting rights at the Cabrini Hospital, Malvern.

Eric graduated in Medicine from the University of Melbourne where he also obtained Honours in the Bachelor of Medical Science. He commenced paediatric training through the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, before completing specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in 2014. He was a Research Fellow with the James Fairfax Institute of Paediatric Nutrition, the University of Sydney and also completed an Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada.

Eric manages newborns to adolescents with gastrointestinal complaints including abdominal pain, disorders of the gut brain interaction/functional gastrointestinal disorders, coeliac disease, constipation, diarrhoea, eosinophilic oesophagitis, gastrooesophageal
reflux disease, liver disease and faltering growth with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr Eric is a firm believer in a holistic approach. He is committed to providing evidence based, patient centred care whilst working closely with referring doctors and allied health practitioners. Eric values the importance of communication and takes the time to sensitively explain medical conditions and treatments which at times may be complex to ensure families are well supported. He is accredited to perform paediatric gastroscopy and colonoscopy by The Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE).

Eric is currently pursuing point of care intestinal ultrasound training for the management of children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease through the Intestinal Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) group and The Gastroenterology Network of Intestinal Ultrasound (GENIUS), Australia.

Outside of work, Eric has pet rabbits, loves travelling and is an avid tennis player
