Neurology

A neurologist specialises in treating diseases of the nervous system. The nervous system is made up of two parts: the central and peripheral nervous system. It includes the brain and spinal cord.

We can see children with a range of neurological conditions including:

  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Childhood headache and migraine
  • Childhood stroke
  • Disorders of Brain Development
  • Movement disorders and tics
  • Seizure Disorders – including epilepsy

The following practitioners at CPMG can be of service in helping investigate and manage children and adolescents with neurological conditions.

Beth is a neurologist who treats children and adolescents with all types of neurologic conditions. After graduating from Monash University, Beth completed her paediatric and specialist neurology training through The Royal Children’s Hospital. Her experience includes subspecialty training in general neurology, epilepsy, neuromuscular medicine and immune-mediated neurologic syndromes. 

Beth has a special interest in neuroimmunology and is currently undertaking a clinical fellowship and PhD in multiple sclerosis and CAR-T cell therapies across both child and adult cohorts. 

CLINICAL INTERESTS
Dr Ian Woodcock has interests in all aspects of paediatric neurology such as headache, tics, migraine and epilepsy, but has particular clinical and research interests in genetic conditions affecting nerves and muscles known as neuromuscular disorders.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Ian has been a consultant paediatrician since 2015 but rather than take up a post in the UK moved to Australia to work as a neurology advanced trainee at the Royal Children’s Hospital until he completed his neurology fellowship in August 2018.

Jeremy is an experienced paediatric neurologist who trained in general paediatrics and neurology at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He completed his training at Northwestern University in Chicago. Jeremy has been a Consultant Neurologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital since 2005 and is an Honorary Fellow in neuroscience research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Prof. Andrew Kornberg is a paediatric neurologist with general neurology and neuromuscular experience. He completed Paediatric Neurology and Neuromuscular Fellowships in the United States working in St Louis, USA. He currently holds an appointment as Senior Neurologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH). He was the Director of Neurology for nearly 15 years, and stepped down from that position in 2015.
